Dear Colleague,

The Bookshop is a Queen’s University company committed to providing a professional bookselling service to staff, students and the wider community. In advance of the next academic year I have enclosed our forms to enable you to list your textbook requirements. The need for close communication and accurate information is vital, as our service to students is compromised severely if we are not in receipt of reading list details. To improve the Bookshop’s service and maximise our financial contribution to the University, I hope the following suggestions meet with your approval.

1) ESSENTIAL TEXTBOOKS: Notwithstanding the many benefits of online learning, textbooks remain fundamental to the student learning experience. Therefore please continue to recommend textbooks and emphasise to your students the importance of acquiring these core titles to facilitate their studies.

2) SPORT AND BOOKS BURSARY: The aim of this generously funded University scheme, {operational since the Autumn of 2006}, is to help students buy books in the Bookshop and use the P.E.C. By next term well over 3000 students will qualify for the £105.00 annual award and I hope you will encourage these fortunate students to use their bursary in full to purchase their essential texts, {details of eligibility available from the Student Guidance Centre}.

3) SEMESTERS: As it is prohibitively expensive to hold stock for long periods, please indicate clearly the particular semester for which books are required.

4) COMMUNICATION: It is essential that we are informed of your reading list choices {and class sizes} at your earliest convenience, {preferably by June 30th and October 31st for second semester lists}. Do please keep us informed of any fluctuations in student numbers, course changes and cancellations. I would encourage you to liaise with me and the Academic Manager, Colleen Leonard and maintain contact with our Booksellers in their respective departments.

Please note that if you prefer to supply your reading list electronically, you may do so by completing an online form: here
or email us at: colleen@queensbookshop.co.uk or download a hardcopy of the form here

If you have any queries or comments on these suggestions, please do not hesitate to get in touch. The Bookshop depends totally on your loyalty and I would like to thank you for your co-operation and support and for taking the time to liaise with us.

Yours Faithfully
